Second Grade Happenings!

We have been having a lot of fun in class practicing our new skills in reading, language and math!

We practiced our shapes AND addition skills playing "Shape Shuffle".

We practiced subtracting from 20 when we played "Silly Sweaters".

We practiced our mental math for addition by completing a "Watch, Think and Color" activity.  Our picture made an elf when we were done!

We worked on several "Roam the Room" activities to get up and moving while practicing identifying the difference between common and proper nouns, practicing our measuring and place value, as well as identifying the difference between facts and opinions.

We also used our interactive whiteboard and projector to practice math.

Have a fantastic, fun-filled winter break!

Halloween Week Fun

We had a lot of fun while learning during Halloween Week.  Check out the pictures below of some of our fun activities!

We spent time this week learning about non-fiction text features that help us understand what we read and had an especially fun time using our interactive whiteboard to highlight when we found features we were looking for in the text we were reading.

We also had fun practicing our addition skills and shape recognition playing a fun pumpkin game.

On Halloween, we practiced our inferring skills while trying to solve riddles about costumes.  Then it was time for our party where we worked on art projects, played games and, of course, had snacks.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to our fun, whether it was by sending in food or coming to help.  The kids had a great time!

New Year!

Welcome back from break!  I hope that everyone had a fun and relaxing winter vacation!  It is a new year and with it comes a brand new home on the web for our classroom. First, a big thank you to Courtney from Blogs Fit for a Queen who designed our new site!  I love it and I hope you do as well. She is one talented 18 year old college student!  This new site is actually a blog and comes with the ability for you to follow the happenings in our classroom through e-mail. On the right hand side of this page you will see "Follow by Email".  If you enter your e-mail address you will get a message every time I post on this page. This makes for a super easy, hands-off way for you to follow what happens in our room. If you follow many blogs I included the option to follow me through the web site Bloglovin' as well.  I hope to use this blog to communicate pictures and even more information about our classroom than easily fits in a newsletter, so I hope you will follow along with our learning and fun! I anticipate our paper newsletters getting smaller and hopefully saving a few trees with the launch of this blog. To kick things off here are some pictures from the Cory Batz dance. Happy New Year!
